(Thanks to my friend :iconlovetillidie: for getting a good pic of me :D Go visit her page now!)
Hello, and thanks for visiting my page! I'm working hard to get rid of my artists' block (which occurs frequently) and my perfectionism, so I can just draw.

I'm going to college for an English major with a focus in Creative Writing. I preferably want to write novels and stories, and even a screenplay if I'm lucky. I also want to continue to draw even though I may not be taking classes for it because I enjoy bringing to life (or at least trying to) the scenes that play out in my head. C:

I'm also a huge fangirl, spanning over many different movies, TV shows, and manga. So beware, I love so many weird things! :D Though I'm not into weird pairings, though if pairings are plausible I will cheer on!

Hey guys. As many of you may know, I'm so irregular on my Deviant Art that it doesn't come as a surprise when I disappear for a good chunk of time.

I've been spending a lot of my time in college. I've also been spending a lot of time thinking about what the future holds for me. Last Spring semester I was enrolled in a Fiction Workshop class. Long story short, the students that made a point to say anything about my stories made it abundantly clear they never read it. The couple of students that always spoke had a real uncanny way of tearing my work down under the guise of "critique," while the teacher barely defended me when I was ganged up on.

My work is not perfect. I don't mind critiques when they are actually helpful. But when I'm basically asked flat out by a student in class why I even wrote something that she thought wasn't allowed in the criteria for the assignment, that's where I draw the line. (We were asked to interview someone at a work place about their work and write about that setting in detail. I decided to write about a gas station that happened to have werewolf and vampire characters. Even though it was fantasy, I still followed the criteria.) On top of that, only one person commented on something that worked in the story. The other people either never spoke or continued to complain about the subject material. The teacher eventually made a point of saying that he enjoyed my story in the way that there was "extraordinary in the ordinary."

That being said, I felt really shitty all summer break. In the four months I had off, I laid on my bed in my room and watched YouTube videos all day. Every time I went to write, a voice in my head told me that it would just get torn apart and that I shouldn't bother. I knew my work was good, yet after dealing with negative comments about my work all semester, it left me feeling a bit depressed.

Now it's been a good while, and I'm in a Poetry Workshop class with people who are kind and can critique without tearing my work to shreds. I've started to realize that you can't please everyone in the end, and you have to keep writing/drawing/crafting/etc what interests you. You will never be happy if you're stuck in a genre that people flock to because that's what "sells." If you're passionate about something and you churn out work that you enjoy, fans will eventually come.

And that story that was torn apart in class? Even with the flaws I notice, it's my best work yet. I'm working to edit it and I'm already planning a novel that takes place in that same universe. I don't give a damn if people say it was "cliche" (rules for vampires and werewolves are kind of set in stone and I can't just throw them out), "violence for the sake of violence" (if they read the story, the context was all there), or "too out there" (sorry that your imagination can only go so far). It's the story I want to write. Who cares if it can't get traditionally published, with websites like Amazon I can self publish my own e-books and set my own prices. I can even advertise my work online through social media, I don't need a publisher to take a cut of my profits so they can advertise it.

I'm finally starting to see my worth. It's a good feeling. And I hope that this post can help someone else realize that too.

To those that stick around, thank you. Hopefully I can be a bit more active from here on out. This is a great community with passionate artists and writers, and I'm happy to be a part of it.
